One day I was sitting in Austin and got a phone call from Clive Langer, a producer friend of mine from London (Dexy's Midnight Runners, Morrissey, Blur) who said he needed some Texas musicians to record on a Cd he wss making with a Camden town band he was working with called THE ROCKINGBIRDS, and he wanted to send over the tapes and let me pick some guys and go to work... what a cool kind of call to get, eh? In the end Clive came over with their label guy and manager, Jeff Barrett, and Alan Tyler from the band. This was another one of those life changing moments for me.

We got the guys from the BAD LIVERS (Danny and Mark and Ralph) and did what Clive wanted.. Voila! a little bit of Texas right there on this cool London band's record. People loved this band and they were great, but something imploded before too long and then there was no band.

Alan Tyler is still perfroming solo with a very cool band that includes BJ Cole, who played steel on "Tiny Dancer" and "Country Comforts" by Elton John. Last year Alan made a very beautiful CD with Sean Reid producing. Sean was in the Rockingbirds and is now producing and singing and playing with Beth Orton. I consider Sean the best white Tambourine player in the world and he is making very good recordings in his home studio, where his lovely wife Maddie puts up with the goings and comings. Andy Hackett is still probably the best Country style guitar player in the UK, plays with Edwin Collins and owns Vintage Guitars on Denmark Street in London, go by and say hello (or buy a guitar). Dave Morgan is the only Drummer in London who I would call for sessions. He plays like he is from Texas and is a very cool guy.

Recently Dave Morgan was hit by a car in a hit and run and suffered some major bone fractures, months in a hospital and now is facing years of physical therapy and pain.....he hopefully will play again.

Jeff Barrett continues to mastermind Heavenly Records and the number of cool acts they have touched over the years is impressive. (Beth Orten, Star Sailor, Rockingbirds, St Etienne, & more)

I owe these people a lot of thanks for being my friends and helping me meet so many people. It is because of them that I know some very good friends....Sarah Lowe (the head of press for Mute Records); Big Steve Tree (from the Arlenes); Vicki Childs ( a lovely woman); Richard Porter (Proper Distribution) to name a few!!!
